How do I make matcha tea without a bamboo whisk?

"How do I make Matcha Tea without a bamboo whisk?"

You do not need the bamboo whisk. I make matcha at home in Calgary without one, and the lumps people blame on the missing whisk actually come from somewhere else entirely. They come from skipping the sift.

Sift the matcha into your bowl first, every time. Then add a splash of hot water, not boiling, and work the powder into a smooth, glossy paste with a spoon. A small handheld milk frother does the same job if you have one. Once the paste is smooth with no dry pockets left, top the bowl up with the rest of the hot water and froth it once more. It pours smooth and even, and there is not a lump in sight.
