Frequently Asked Questions

How to use ortho comfort wand?

The Comfort Wand applicator included with the Ortho Killex 4L container simplifies targeted application. To operate, ensure batteries are inserted correctly into the wand handle. Extend the wand fully, unlock the trigger, and press the button to activate the spray. This battery-powered mechanism delivers a continuous, precise stream or mist, reducing hand fatigue compared to manual pump sprayers, which is beneficial for treating larger areas or numerous spot applications across commercial grounds. Always follow the instructions for priming the wand before first use.

Which weed killer is better, ortho or Roundup?

The primary distinction between Ortho Killex and Roundup lies in their mode of action and target weeds. Ortho Killex, like this 4L Ready-to-Use product, is a selective herbicide designed to kill broadleaf weeds without harming established lawn grasses such as Kentucky Bluegrass, Fescues, and Ryegrass. Roundup, on the other hand, is a non-selective herbicide that kills almost all vegetation it contacts, including desirable grasses and plants. For professional lawn care on commercial properties where grass needs to be preserved, Ortho Killex is the appropriate choice, while Roundup is used for total vegetation control in areas like gravel paths or fence lines.

Will Ortho Killex kill grass?

No, Ortho Killex is a selective herbicide specifically designed to kill broadleaf weeds without harming established lawn grass. This 4L Ready-to-Use formula contains active ingredients that target weeds like dandelions, clover, and plantain, while leaving common turfgrasses such as Kentucky Bluegrass, Fescues, and Ryegrass unharmed when applied correctly. It is crucial to follow the application instructions on the label to ensure proper use and avoid any unintended effects on your lawn.

How long does ortho killex take to work?

Ortho Killex begins working on weeds relatively quickly after application, with visible effects typically appearing within hours to a few days. You might observe wilting, curling, or yellowing of the treated broadleaf weeds. Full control and the complete dying off of the weeds usually occur within 2-4 weeks, depending on the weed type, growth stage, and environmental conditions. For optimal results with this 4L Ready-to-Use formula, apply when weeds are actively growing and on a day without impending rain.

How much ortho weed killer per gallon?

This Ortho Killex product is a Ready-to-Use 4L formulation, meaning it does not require mixing with water or any dilution per gallon. It comes pre-mixed at the correct concentration for direct application via its Comfort Wand. If you are looking for a concentrate product that requires mixing, ChickenPieces.com also offers the Ortho Killex 1L Lawn Weed Control Concentrate, which provides coverage for up to 8,000 sq. ft. and would be mixed according to its specific label instructions.

What are the typical dimensions and weight of the Ortho Killex Ready-to-Use 4L container for shipping?

While exact dimensions can vary slightly, a 4L container of Ortho Killex with its Comfort Wand applicator typically measures approximately 10-12 inches in height, 6-8 inches in width, and 4-6 inches in depth. The gross weight, including the liquid product and packaging, would be around 4.5 to 5 kilograms (roughly 10-11 pounds). This sizing allows for efficient handling and stacking in commercial inventory and during shipment from our Calgary warehouse.

For a commercial property with moderate weed pressure, how long would a 4L container of Ortho Killex typically last?

The duration a 4L container of Ortho Killex Ready-to-Use lasts depends heavily on the size of the area being treated and the density of the broadleaf weeds. Since this product is primarily for spot treatment, a single 4L bottle can cover a substantial number of individual weeds across several acres of turf. For ongoing maintenance on a commercial property with moderate weed pressure and regular application, it might last an entire season or several months. Factors like repeat applications and the extent of new weed growth will also influence its lifespan.

What is the recommended cleaning and maintenance procedure for the Comfort Wand applicator on this Ortho Killex 4L unit?

To ensure the longevity and proper function of the Comfort Wand applicator, it's essential to perform basic maintenance. After each use, especially if there's remaining product, run clean water through the wand for a minute or two to flush out any herbicide residue. Store the wand in a dry, protected place, ideally reattached to the bottle or coiled neatly to prevent kinks in the hose. Regularly check the batteries and replace them as needed, especially before starting a large application job, to maintain consistent spray pressure.

What are the ideal weather and application conditions for using Ortho Killex 4L Ready-to-Use to ensure maximum efficacy on commercial lawns?

For optimal results with Ortho Killex 4L, apply the product on a calm, warm day when temperatures are between 10°C and 25°C. Avoid applying if rain is expected within 24 hours to prevent the herbicide from washing off before it's fully absorbed by the weeds. It's best to apply when weeds are actively growing, typically in spring or early fall, as they will readily absorb the herbicide. Applying in the morning after dew has dried but before the heat of the day helps prevent rapid evaporation and maximizes absorption.

What specific safety precautions should commercial operators follow when applying Ortho Killex Ready-to-Use 4L?

When commercial operators apply Ortho Killex 4L, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is crucial. This includes chemical-resistant gloves, eye protection, long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and closed-toe shoes to minimize skin and eye contact. Ensure adequate ventilation if working in a enclosed area, and keep unauthorized personnel, children, and pets away from the treated area until the spray has dried. Always read and strictly follow all instructions and safety warnings on the product label provided by Health Canada.
