JOY #30 and #40 flat-bottom cake cones are the two standard soft serve cones. Both stand upright on the dispensing tray under the machine spout. The #30 is the compact size used for a regular swirl, and the #40 is taller with a wider mouth for a large swirl or a dipped cone. JOY jacketed cake cones offer the same flat bottom with a paper sleeve for grip. Pointed sugar cones such as the #310 need a cone holder for soft serve and are normally used for scooped ice cream.
The JOY #30 cake cone is about 4 inches tall with a 1.9 inch opening and holds a 3 oz swirl; it comes 750 per case in 25 sleeves of 30. The JOY #40 cake cone is about 4.5 inches tall with a 2.25 inch opening, holds a 4 to 5 oz swirl, and comes 600 per case in 30 sleeves of 20. Dairy bars use the #30 for kids and regular cones and the #40 for large cones and dipped cones. Both are made from the same wafer batter, are peanut-free and contain no dairy or eggs.
Cake cones: JOY #10 mini 720 per case, #22 720, #30 750, #40 600, #60 484, #80 320. Sugar cones: #310 pointed sugar 800 per case, #415 jacketed sugar 800 per case. Waffle cones: item 6216 is 216 per case and item 7192 is 192 per case. Gluten-free cake and sugar cones are 96 per case, and Kids cones are 1,260 per case. Dividing the case price by these counts gives cost per cone, which for cake cones is a fraction of the cost of a cup and spoon.
Sealed JOY cases keep 9 to 12 months from the pack date when stored dry between 10 and 25 C. An opened sleeve stays crisp for 2 to 3 weeks if resealed in a bag or airtight bin. Keep cones away from the walk-in door, steam tables and dish pit, since humidity softens them within days, and never refrigerate or freeze cones because condensation ruins them on the way out. Stale cones can often be refreshed for 3 to 5 minutes in a 150 C oven.
