What is Frostline?

Frostline is a dry soft serve mix made by Kent Precision Foods in the United States. Each 6 lb bag is mixed with cold water to make about 2 gallons of liquid mix, which is poured into any standard soft serve machine. Because it is shelf-stable powder, operators keep a case on the shelf instead of managing fresh dairy mix deliveries and spoilage.

Who uses Frostline?

Frostline is used by concession stands, arenas, food trucks, schools, camps, seasonal ice cream windows and any operator without a cold-chain dairy supplier. It is also chosen by facilities serving lactose-intolerant guests, because the vanilla and chocolate mixes contain no lactose and no gluten.

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers for Canadian buyers
How do I mix Frostline soft serve?

Frostline is a dry soft serve mix. Pour one 6 lb bag into 8 quarts (7.6 L) of cold water, whisk for about 2 minutes until smooth, and pour into the machine hopper. Cold water below 4 C gives the smoothest freeze. Each case holds six 6 lb bags. Frostline can also be mixed with milk for a richer product, or with a plant-based milk for a dairy-free dessert. No pasteurizing or ageing step is needed because the mix is shelf stable.

How many servings does one bag of Frostline make?

One 6 lb bag mixed with 8 quarts of water makes about 2.5 gallons (9.5 L) of liquid mix, which the machine expands with air to roughly 12 to 14 L of soft serve. At a standard 4 oz (120 mL) cone or cup, that is 100 to 115 servings per bag, or 600 to 700 servings per case of six bags. Actual yield depends on the machine overrun setting and cone size; a 5 oz swirl yields about 80 to 90 servings per bag.

How long does mixed Frostline last?

Mixed Frostline keeps 48 to 72 hours refrigerated at 4 C or below, in a covered container or in the machine on standby mode. Do not leave liquid mix at room temperature for more than 2 hours. Unopened dry bags keep 12 months or more in a cool, dry stockroom, and an opened bag should be sealed and used within 30 days. Mix only what you expect to serve in two to three days to avoid waste.

Is Frostline lactose-free, gluten-free and vegan?

Frostline vanilla and chocolate are lactose-free and gluten-free, and contain no nuts, eggs or high-fructose corn syrup. The dry mix uses whey-derived ingredients, so it is not vegan on its own, and the vegan-friendly option is to mix with water or a plant-based milk and verify ingredient acceptance with the customer. Frostline is Kosher certified and is widely used in schools, hospitals and care homes for lactose-intolerant diners. Full ingredient and allergen statements are on each Chicken Pieces product page.
