Split tonight's pool

A tip pool that only the manager understands causes more turnover than a bad schedule. Hours times a role weight is simple enough to explain in a minute and fair enough that nobody argues.

The formula

Weight = hours × role points. Share = pool × weight ÷ total weight. Per hour = share ÷ hours.

What good points look like

Servers and bartenders 10

Front-line, guest-facing.

Bussers and runners 5

Support roles, half weight.

Hosts 4

Set everyone to 10 for a pure hours split.

What to do about it

  • Post the points where staff can see them.
  • Check your province's rules on who may share in a pool; managers usually may not.
  • Run it the same way every night. Consistency is the whole point.

Now do it with your numbers.
